Much of the success of a retreat, understanding as success the fact that participants and organizers feel satisfied and full with the experience, is in the group. That is, in the group, there is a willingness to cooperate. There is respect for the processes of each person, a shared desire to have fun, honesty and openness to share emotional states, opinions, points of view …
At the end of a spiritual retreat, in the closing circle, the importance of the group is always enhanced. In a group, everyone is part of the whole, facilitators and participants, all carry and bring their light, their vision and essence. Willingly or not, we all help each other simply by being there, by sharing their learning.
A specialist or facilitator, can be very good with words and prepare his workshops very well, but sometimes the person who helps you to make the necessary “click” is a person who, like you, attends a retreat as a participant. This persona may have lived something similar to what you live and, for whatever reason, their words reach you deeper, or make a lot more sense to you.
When we find out…We all are vulnerable
Another fundamental aspect of the group is to see and accept that we all feel more or less vulnerable. We are all improvising and learning to live in the best way we know. In a spiritual retreat, this feeling vulnerable can be shared without it being seen as a trait of inferiority. On the contrary, it becomes a trait of courage by telling and sharing it with others. When a person shares their vulnerability to a group, one can always fee in the air a smell of admiration for that person.
In a retreat everything is very intense and real, since it is a space where people are more authentic. Science proves it; the most authentic people are more attractive. This produces a kind of spiral where the same group promotes and facilitates the spontaneity and truth of its members.
Behind our vulnerability is our beauty, our innocence, our power …
There is nothing more beautiful than to surround yourself with a group of people who are not afraid to see your vulnerability because they have lost their fear of seeing their own, thanks to the strength and support of the group.
