I know very few cases of people who, after having attended a weekend retreat, don’t come back saying “Wow! What a gift! I should do this more often!”
A deep work
Normally, our busy life does not invite us to take pauses, to listen to ourselves, in short, to be with ourselves. Our mind is accustomed to wandering around, always thinking about the next occupation, task or duty. We plunge in an endless stream of thoughts, judgments, expectations that take away a lot of energy. Our whole body and mind is very grateful to be able to stop a few days to enter this “listening mode“. A time and space where to listen to our body, listen to our mind, in an environment prepared for it, where you do not have to worry about anything. Undoubtedly, it is a real gift that also has a very positive impact on your life, on your relationships, on your work and, in short, on your well-being.
What happens during a weekend retreat has always seemed “magical” to me. For a few days you live and share your heart and being with other people, most of which you had never seen before. You open and express your difficulties, your resistance, your vulnerability. In this you heal your wounds, you transcend your shadows… and this we do it together … Wow, a price can’t be put to this!.
We are “made” to relate, to open and share with honesty and openness with others, light shines on us when we can recognize that “there are no differences”, we are all the same.
In our busy life we have no opportunity to relate authentically, we interact in a rather superficial, controlled way. Irrevocably we tend to hide our emotions and weaknesses behind a thick and heavy mask. We hide our tenderness, our vulnerability, our deep fears and longings. We disconnect from Life!
Nonetheless, during weekend retreats, authentic relationships flourish almost spontaneously. Through living experiences, and sharing in leisure time and meals participants weave and create very healthy, beautiful and authentic links. I still keep in touch with friends from my first retreats, more than 20 years ago! They are really very special relationships.
When I started to go on retreats, there was really very little offer! As soon as one that I liked came out, I signed up and booked the date well in advance! Fortunately, today the offer is varied. Some are more focused on the care and attention to the body, there are weekend retreats exclusively for yoga, some focus in the learning of some specific technique or therapy.
Also, there are retreats that offer longer term trainings (several weekends in a year, for example) and other retreats propose the practice strict silence …
When choosing your retirement, my advice is to “listen” and let yourself be guided by your intuition, it sure does not disappoint you.
And the best part is that, in addition to doing a beautiful and healing inner work, retreats are usually a very fun experience, what more can you expected?
